Under some circumstances, candidates may need to add a Letter of Explanation (LOE) to their application. This can result from a missing document that could not be provided, an incoherence that might jump to the attention of the immigration officer reviewing your case, etc.

The LOE is also your way of communicating to immigration officers any supplementary information that is not on the documents uploaded and that you deem important for them to know.

We strongly advise you to put the LoE at the beginning of the PDF file. This ensures that the immigration officer reads the LoE first, and then goes on to the other documents attached to the LoE (if there are any).

 

International students must submit Letter of explanation along with their study visa application

Explanation letter is very important as it assists the visa officer to understand your study and career goals.

It is important to write a cover letter as a way of communication with the embassy officer that will/is going to process your visa application.

Especially, now that a lot of the Embassies use the VFS services to collect documents and deliver the applicant’s passport, you have no chances given to speak to the visa officers and explain your details. As the visa officers make their decisions based on the documents you provide, it is highly recommended to write a cover letter that would do the explaining for you.

Therefore, write a compelling cover letter even though it is not to be found on the list of required documents!

Make sure your cover letter is written according to your travel purpose, such as: Business, Health, Visit, etc.

Except for the regular documents you are expected to send to the Embassy, you must also work towards composing a cover letter that you can submit to the Embassy together with the rest of the documents, to explain in detail your purpose of travel and your itinerary.

• Reasons to Choose Study in particular country

 This is a document which provides you with an opportunity to let the visa officer know why you have chosen to study in particular country. You must include definite reasons for your choice. Study in Canada would cost you and the case officer is interested to know about the research you have done to pursue your decision to Study in country.

• Reason to choose your proposed course of study

Another point you must cover in your Letter of Explanation is your choice of the proposed course. You need to provide solid reasons about why you have chosen a particular course and how this course would benefit you in terms of your study goal or your career goal.

• Relevance of your proposed course to your background

​

 Is your proposed course for Study is relevant with your past experience? How your course and the level of the course is relevant to your past study or any work.

• Study Progression

If it is not relevant why have you chosen to do this course and how does it fit into your study progression?

• Your responsibilities as a student

​

This is another very important point which you must include in your student visa application. As an international student you must know and understand your responsibilities and the letter of explanation is an excellent way to communicate to the visa officer what your responsibilities as a student are and that you fully understand them.
